Homework Club – The Homework Club is an after-school, goal-oriented program where volunteer tutors establish intentional relationships with individual students during the school year. OUR NEXT GENERATION tutors have an ongoing relationship not only with a particular student but also with the student’s family and teachers. Homework Club participants are mentored through high school or as long as they choose to participate, regardless of what school they are attending.
- Outbound Tutoring – With similar goals as the Homework Club, Outbound Tutoring has been instituted in partnership with University School of Milwaukee and Manpower, Inc. . Three days per week 4th through 7th graders are bused to the partner sites where one-on-one tutoring/mentoring is provided.
- High School Connection – This is OUR NEXT GENERATION’S newest program designed to provide our teenagers with both a structured program as well as a safe, supervised environment for social activities and opportunities for employment. It is a twice- weekly evening program for 13 to 17 year-olds to discuss issues facing kids in the neighborhood such as peer pressure, part-time job opportunities, teen pregnancy prevention, conflict resolution and career planning. The program also provides tutoring for ACT testing. Meals are provided and stipends for tutoring Homework Club students or monitoring the Learning Center programs are provided for those who demonstrate an interest. Scholarships for summer pre-college programs and advanced learning after high school whether university, technical school or apprenticeship training are available to participants.
A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO THE FOLLOWING MAJOR CORPORATE DONORS AND FOUNDATIONS FOR SUPPORTING OUR "CONNECTIONS" PROGRAMMING!
- Learning Centers – Currently OUR NEXT GENERATION operates Learning Centers at Westside Academy I and II (31st & Brown/36th & Brown). The program provides tutoring and homework supervision immediately after school in a group context and includes time in the tech lab or library for computer study. After homework is finished, students have the opportunity to select from a roster of social and enrichment activities including sports, games, art, poetry, computer lab time or more.
- Email Mentoring – All eight graders in the Learning Center program are involved in an email mentoring program in partnership with GE Healthcare. GE Healthcare employees from around the world email students at least once a week to assist in school work as well as broadening career ideas and life skill possibilities for students. Once a semester the students engage face-to-face with their GE mentors in a group scholastic project. OUR NEXT GENERATION is seeking additional business partners to expand the program to other grades.
- Summer Programs – OUR NEXT GENERATION offers an eight-week intensive summer program with academics in the morning and social and recreational activities in the afternoon. This five day per week program offers three meals per day, and engages children from K-12th grade in positive and safe activities. The summer camp averages more than 150 children per day.
