Homework Club – The Homework Club is an after-school, goal-oriented program where volunteer tutors establish intentional relationships with individual students during the school year. OUR NEXT GENERATION tutors have an ongoing relationship not only with a particular student but also with the student’s family and teachers. Homework Club participants come from 10-15 Milwaukee public, private and charter schools and are are mentored throughout their elementary years. The HWC students are encouraged to join our High School Connection program, keeping them connected to positive, safe environments in the after-school hours.
- Outbound Learning – With similar goals as the Homework Club, Outbound Learning has been instituted in partnership with University School of Milwaukee, Manpower, Inc. and our intergenerational site, St. John's on the Lake. Four days per week elementary and middle school students participate in mentoring and academic enrichment programming with Academic Mentors from these partner sites.
- High School Connection – This is OUR NEXT GENERATION’S program designed to provide our teenagers with both a structured program as well as a safe, supervised environment for social activities and opportunities for workforce training and soft-skill development. It's a twice-weekly evening program for 13 to 17 year-olds to discuss opportunities available, such as career planning and soft-skill training, college exploration and community stewardship. The program also helps to address the critical issues facing kids in the neighborhood: peer pressure, teen pregnancy prevention, conflict resolution and crime and substance abuse prevention. The program also provides tutoring for academic achievement and ACT test preparation. Sudents are on a track towards high school graudation (we currently celebrate the 100% graduation rate of our seniors!). Meals are provided and stipends for tutoring Homework Club students or monitoring the Learning Center programs are provided for those who demonstrate an interest. Scholarships for summer pre-college programs and advanced learning after high school - whether university, technical school or apprenticeship training - are available to active participants.
A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO THE FOLLOWING MAJOR CORPORATE DONORS AND FOUNDATIONS FOR SUPPORTING OUR "CONNECTIONS" PROGRAMMING!
- Learning Centers – Currently OUR NEXT GENERATION operates Learning Centers at Westside Academy I and II (31st & Brown/36th & Brown). The program provides tutoring and homework supervision immediately after school in a group context and includes time in the tech lab or library for computer study. After homework is finished, students have the opportunity to select from a roster of social and enrichment activities including sports, games, art, poetry, computer lab time or more.
- Summer Programs – OUR NEXT GENERATION offers an eight-week, intensive summer program with academics in the morning and social and recreational activities in the afternoon. This five day per week program offers three meals per day, and engages children from K-12th grade in positive and safe activities. The summer camp averages more than 125 children per day. - Arts Partnership - "Creating Community through the Arts" is a partnership with Express Yourself Milwaukee, engaging 4th - 8th grades students in an eight-month artistic process, which will build from session to session to help students create a deeper understanding of multidisciplinary art forms as a means of expression. They will engage in various visual and performing arts, including drum, dance and movement. The program is designed as a pathway toward students’ development of healthier self-identities and lifestyles.
